Since I was a kid, decades ago, we ate a lot of pinto beans and cornbread along with stewed potatoes and cornbread. I have played with both recipes over the years but the best is simply using the slab bacon chunked up in both the beans and potatoes then ladled over the cornbread. Of course the cornbread iron skillet gets a good dose of the Nueskes bacon grease...it's gold in my house. Life is too short to live on salad.
