This recipe for Candied Applewood Smoked Bacon is a delightful blend of savory and sweet flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Nueske's Applewood Smoked Bacon
- 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper (optional, for a spicy kick)
Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. This will help the bacon cook evenly and prevent it from sticking to the pan.
- In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir well to ensure the cayenne pepper is evenly distributed throughout the sugar.
- Take each slice of bacon and press it into the brown sugar mixture, coating both sides. You can use your fingers or a fork to help press the sugar onto the bacon. Make sure each slice is well coated.
- Place the bacon slices in a single layer on the wire rack on the baking sheet. Leave some space between the slices to allow for even cooking.
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the sugar has caramelized. Keep a close eye on the bacon during the last few minutes of cooking to prevent burning.
- Once the bacon is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes on the wire rack. The sugar will harden as the bacon cools, giving it a delicious candied texture.
- Transfer the candied bacon to a plate or serving platter, and enjoy! It makes a great appetizer or addition to dishes like salads, sandwiches, or even desserts.
- Note: Candied bacon is best enjoyed fresh, but if you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container at room temperature for a day or two.
