Baked Beans with Bacon

Everything is better with bacon, and this tasty dish is certainly no exception! The sweet smoky notes Nueske’s award-winning Smoked Bacon brings to this recipe make it simply irresistible.

  • 1 can (55 oz) Bush's ® canned beans
  • 12 oz Nueske's Smoked Bacon, diced 1/4 inch
  • 1 1/4 C onion, diced
  • 1/2 C brown sugar
  • 3/4 C full flavored dark molasses


Fry bacon and onion until bacon is medium crisp. Mix bacon mixture (including the drippings) with all the ingredients. Pour into baking dish or roaster. Bake 2 1/2 hours at 325°. Variation: For sweeter beans, use 1/2 c maple syrup in place of brown sugar and mild molasses in place of full flavor molasses.

Beans and bacon


Very similar to one of my recipes I've been doing for over 40 years. I use B&M beans, however. The Nueske's bacon makes it even better! If you use B&M beans, you can omit the brown sugar and molasses... B&M beans may not be available in large cans? Four or five regular cans works. I make mine in a roaster pan. A bean pot, if you can find one, would work even better! I like my beans with a warm, crusty French bread, sliced about 3/4". Or fresh warm biscuits? I like to open the bacon pack, and slice it into 1/2" slices, as a slab. As it fries, the slices will fall apart. Stir to break them up.
