Ingredients

  • 1 lb Nueske's Applewood Smoked Bacon
  • 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper (optional, for a spicy kick)

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. This will help the bacon cook evenly and prevent it from sticking to the pan.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir well to ensure the cayenne pepper is evenly distributed throughout the sugar.
  3. Take each slice of bacon and press it into the brown sugar mixture, coating both sides. You can use your fingers or a fork to help press the sugar onto the bacon. Make sure each slice is well coated.
  4. Place the bacon slices in a single layer on the wire rack on the baking sheet. Leave some space between the slices to allow for even cooking.
  5. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the sugar has caramelized. Keep a close eye on the bacon during the last few minutes of cooking to prevent burning.
  6. Once the bacon is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes on the wire rack. The sugar will harden as the bacon cools, giving it a delicious candied texture.
  7. Transfer the candied bacon to a plate or serving platter, and enjoy! It makes a great appetizer or addition to dishes like salads, sandwiches, or even desserts.
  8. Note: Candied bacon is best enjoyed fresh, but if you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container at room temperature for a day or two.
